TV tonight: The Gilded Age returns in all its glossy Julian Fellowes’ glory

High-society plotting is afoot as nouveau riche arrivistes threaten the old order. Plus, David Harewood’s dogged Pierre won’t let a spot of angina slow him down. Here’s what to watch this evening
The Gilded Age
Julian Fellowes’ glossy, airy period confection returns. The Gilded Age has now happily embraced its own lack of real nutritional value and, towards the end of the third season, its ratings swelled as a result. In the opener, Agnes is scheming to retain her position in society and there’s a subplot of real modern resonance as old money starts being threatened by crass, arriviste monopolists. Phil Harrison
A Place in the Sun
Now that it’s dark before dinnertime, the show about upping sticks from the UK feels like perfect vicarious viewing.
